Police arrest man for Redwood City bank robbery
Similar crime occurred in Palo Alto on Oct. 18

A 24-year-old transient was arrested earlier this week for allegedly robbing a bank in Redwood City, police said. A similar robbery was reported in Palo Alto on Oct. 18.

Kendrick Roby was arrested on suspicion of the Redwood City robbery, which was reported at about 11:05 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the BBVA Compass Bank at 660 Woodside Road.

A man entered the bank and jumped over a counter and demanded money from employees, threatening to shoot them if they did not comply, police Sgt. Sean Hart said. The man then opened a drawer and took cash from it and then fled from the bank, running north on Oxford Street, according to police.

A witness reported seeing the suspect run into an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Oxford Street. Officers eventually found the suspect, later identified as Roby, hiding in an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Hudson Street and took him into custody, police said.

The stolen money was recovered but no weapon was found on Roby despite his threat to shoot the bank employees, Hart said. No one was injured during the robbery. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Ed Feeney at 650-780-7129 or Detective Dave Stahler at 650-780-7620.

A similar robbery occurred in Palo Alto Oct. 18 when a man vaulted over a counter at Star One Credit Union, removed cash from teller drawers and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The robbery occurred at about 11 a.m. at the credit union at 3903 El Camino Real. Officers received calls from various witnesses, including a customer who was at the credit union and who fled when he realized that a robbery was in progress. By the time the officers arrived, the robber had fled.

According to a statement from the police, officers were unable to locate the suspect despite "an extensive check of the area." No one was injured during the robbery.

Investigators learned that the suspect entered the credit union, vaulted the teller counter, took cash from the drawers, jumped back over the counter and fled on foot eastbound on Ventura Avenue. Numerous witnesses had seen the man run out of the building. Police said one witness reported possibly seeing the suspect holding a handgun. No other witnesses saw a weapon.

Well people are getting desperate more and more I'm seeing robbery's in broad daylight. The crime is considered a bigger offense when it is done in the day time. What makes it so bad we haven't seen anything yet, soon everyone will be walking or riding with their guns, being afraid for their life and their belongings, we do not have enough of police officer's on the street verse's the number of people out of jobs, and have no other means of income. Now with the cold weather approaching, we are gonna see even more robberies. Just saying! Realty is what I call it. So Get Ready!

How sad to feal so weak and afraid that you have to carry a gun for protection. I feel sorry for those living in such fear. Not me :)

I interrupted him breaking into my car in 2008, he was later identified by fingerprints and prosecuted. He admitted he was looking for items to steal and sell, admitting also that he observed lots of toys and childrens' items in my trunk. I was a single mom at the time. I googled his name and found he was arrested for the same thing before. It was only a matter of time that he would graduate to another level of crime. I do not feel sorry for him-only for his mother who will no doubt have to bear the emotional burden of his poor choices and visit him behind bars. He deserves no benefit of the doubt as it pertains to the state of the economy. He is a criminal-plain and simple-who has had plenty of time to find a job and instead chooses to victimize others and steal. Lock him up and throw away the key.

When I was in college, someone broke into my apartment, passed my roommates' room, entered mine and tried to rape me. There had been breakins in the neighborhood earlier,so I had bought a realistic looking toy gun and put it under my pillow for just such an occasion. Sure enough, in the dark, it fooled the guy and he left. I shudder to think what might have happened otherwise.

However, the local police handled it by saying, "You sure it wasn't some boyfriend of yours?
