 | Palo Alto City Councilman Greg Schmid is in recovery mode after undergoing an unplanned coronary bypass surgery at Sequoia Hospital Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Schmid, a retired economist who is seeking a second term on the council, had a successful operation, according to a statement from his campaign. In the statement, Schmid's family thanks well-wishers in advance and asks for privacy and consideration as Schmid recovers.
"He will return home in a few days, and he look forward with relish to resuming soon his work for the city and on his re-election campaign," the statement said.

Posted by Christina B., a resident of the Greendell/Walnut Grove neighborhood, on Oct 5, 2012 at 3:09 pm I hope Councilman Schmidt is okay, but this brings forth a question. What is the succession if a councilmember cannot serve? Is there another election? Is someone else appointed? And if so, by whom?
