The Menlo College women’s volleyball team ended a 13-match skid Friday, beating visiting Arizona Christian, 25-15, 25-10, 25-21, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.

The Oaks (1-4, 1-13) were led by junior transfer Kori Paradis, and freshmen Maggie McDonald and Megan Young.

McDonald came through with a match-high nine kills, followed by Megan Young’s eight. Three Oaks collected five: Jaime Nurenberg, Maddie Clegg, and Kenzie Carpenter.

Paradis guided the Oaks attack by dishing out 28 assists while also putting away four kills and collecting a pair of digs.

Menlo also did damage from behind the service line, collecting 14 aces; eight in the first set.

Maddie Clegg led the way with five aces and senior Victoria Arild with four. Renn Isobe chipped in a trio, in addition to collecting 18 digs.

Jamie Nurenberg was in on five blocks, Kori Paradis and Kenzie Carpenter each had a pair each.

For two sets, the Oaks dominated offensively hitting .385 and .419 in the first two frames while the visiting Firestorm hit .231 and .107.

Set three was a tightly contested one with Arizona Christian leading towards the middle portion of what proved to be the final set.

Thanks to a few serving runs by the Oaks, they were able to stay in it and eventually take control of the set and match.

The Oaks will look to end the weekend with a pair of wins as they will take on the Hawks of San Diego Christian College on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
