A public cake-and-punch reception to honor incoming members of Palo Alto's Board of Education will precede a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Following the 6:15 p.m. celebration, new board member Heidi Emberling and returning incumbents Melissa Baten Caswell and Camille Townsend will take the oath of office and the board will choose officers for the coming year. The three were elected -- Caswell for her second term and Townsend for her third -- Nov. 6 after a lively four-way race.
Superintendent Kevin Skelly Tuesday morning removed from the agenda a previously scheduled discussion item on a proposed board policy on guidance and counseling services, saying "it is causing more confusion and concern than anything else."
Following a 5:30 p.m. closed session to discuss personnel and legal matters, the board's regular meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of school district headquarters, 25 Churchill Ave.
