Miss America Is OldUploaded: Jan 30, 2010
I remeber getting an "A" on a paper I wrote for my high school English class around 30 years ago about how the Miss America Pageant was rife with flaws, from the treatment of women, the way these young ladies had to show their "bods" off in bathing suits and gowns, yada yada yada. Oh, and those interviews. And the ridiculous stage performances by the entire cast of candidates.
I have not seen a Miss America Pageant since that time. It may be that things have changed, but when I had a Yahoo topic flagged on my home page today, it appears to have changed very little.
At this point, the age of the women is the same as my daughter's, which is a bit startling for me. I took a couple minutes, healthy American male that I am, and surfed the pictures of all the young ladies who are representing their States, and they are all very pretty, as one would expect for people at that age and in such a contest.
But why does this silly thing continue? The whole concept seems to be such a throw back to another time that is best let to pass.
I suppose in my case, it is like most things around celebrity. I don't get it, I don't pay attention to it, and I think it is a colossal waste of time.
